Award winning artist Diane Dean has had her home studio in Hendersonville for nearly 10 years. Her work has appeared on the cover of the Asheville Laurel and she has been featured in Bold Life and Asheville made. Diane approaches the blank canvas by first building an abstract textural base, carving and pressing various objects into acrylic mediums. Then she begins a representational rendering with washes of fluid acrylics followed by layers of heavier bodied acrylics applied with brushes and palette knives. As the layers grow, the underlying texture leads her hand. The result is a vibrant, highly textured painting.
